1.3 How to use the Apps

Updated 8/28/2026

The Apps page is the central catalogue for Sequoia’s data-science applications and analysis tools. Each app is designed for a specific workflow, such as genome-wide analysis, Mendelian randomisation, data harmonisation, or results processing.

Select the app that best matches your analysis objective, then launch it directly from the portal.

Select studies before launching an app

You can select studies before launching an app. Selected studies are passed to compatible apps when they open.

[Screenshot 1: Use the top section of the Apps page. Add red boxes around “Add Studies” and “Load from Group”.]

  • Select Add Studies to choose individual studies.
  • Select Load from Group to use a predefined study group.
  • The banner confirms whether studies have been selected.

You may also launch an app without pre-selecting studies, where the app supports this workflow.

Browse available apps

Apps are organised into two categories:

  • Internal Apps — Applications available within the Sequoia platform.
  • External Apps — Connected third-party applications, if available to your organisation.

Each app card displays:

  • The app name
  • A brief description of its purpose
  • Its current status
  • The associated owner or contact
  • A Launch button

Find an app

Use the Filter apps search field to quickly locate an app by name.

Type all or part of an app name to narrow the list of apps currently displayed.

Launch an app

To open an app, select Launch on its app card.

The app opens in its dedicated workspace, where you can configure the relevant inputs and run the analysis.

App status

An Active label indicates that the app is currently available to launch.

Apps, available features, and study compatibility may vary according to your organisation’s configuration and your access permissions.

Tips

  • Select studies first when you want to carry the same study selection into your analysis.
  • Read the short description on each app card before launching, particularly when several apps support related workflows.
  • Use the filter field rather than scrolling when you already know the app name.
  • Refer to the relevant app-specific Help page for detailed instructions on configuring and running that app.
