The MR Test app runs Mendelian randomisation (MR) using either:
- Studies currently selected in the portal, or
- One or more selected Portal study groups
The app uses fixed-effect statistics by default and relies on study metadata held in the Sequoia backend.
Before you begin
You will need:
- An MR input file
- A destination project
- Either selected studies in the portal or a selected study group
Important: If you select one or more study groups, they override the studies currently selected in the portal.
Name your job
Enter a descriptive Prefix. You may also add an optional Suffix to distinguish related analyses.
[Screenshot 1: Highlight the Prefix and Suffix fields in the Job Identification section.]
For example:
- Prefix:
BMI_MR_test - Suffix:
v1
Choose the studies to analyse
You can use the studies currently selected in the portal, or select one or more groups in the groups field.
[Screenshot 2: Red box around the groups selector.]
- Leave groups blank to run MR using the studies currently selected in the portal.
- Select one or more study groups to run MR using the studies within those groups.
[Tip callout] When one or more study groups are selected, they take priority over cached study selections.
Select a project
Choose the destination project in the project_id dropdown. This is required.
[Screenshot 3: Red box around the project_id dropdown and the note directing users to Research Hub → Projects.]
The job and output files will be saved to this project.
Add the MR input file
Provide the required input file in the upload section.
[Screenshot 4: Highlight the upload section, including Upload New, Select Existing, and From Jobs Output.]
You can add a file in three ways:
- Upload New — Upload a file from your computer.
- Select Existing — Choose an eligible file already stored in the portal.
- From Jobs Output — Use a file produced by a previous Sequoia job.
Supported formats are .csv and .tsv; the maximum file size is 2 MB.

Ensure that the uploaded file follows the required MR input format.
Launch the app
Review the study source, project, and uploaded file. Then select Launch App.

When the analysis is complete, access the output from the selected project or the job results area.
Tips
- Use the groups field when you want a reproducible set of studies rather than the portal’s current study selection.
- Leave groups blank only when you intend to analyse the studies currently selected in the portal.
- Use a clear prefix and suffix to distinguish repeated test runs.
- MR Test uses fixed-effect statistics by default; interpret results in line with the relevant MR assumptions and your analysis plan.
